San Benedetto del Tronto’s waterfront is home to a series of theme gardens that offer unique, multi-sensory experiences.
These gardens, opened in 2007, are designed to enhance local biodiversity and provide spaces for relaxation and natural beauty. These spaces are enriched with water features, rare plants and bicycle paths, representing a true urban nature park.
Multisensory Garden – Between Concessions 52 and 53
Two beautiful rose beds separate the multi-sensory garden from the bike path. Philadelphus towers over fragrant Lavender near the drinking fountain. Phillirea and Osmantus create sinuous borders, while Artemisia and Lemongrass provide a welcome. Calycanthus, Camphor and Quaking Poplars add verticality and sound. Calycanthus and Oleanders complete the landscape, enhanced by scents of Lavender, Santolina and false Jasmine. The Cystus at the entrance complete the green picture.
Countryside Garden – Between Concessions 66 and 67
This small garden is divided from the bike path by two beds: to the north with ornamental Sage and Hibiscus, to the south with pink Roses and dwarf pomegranates. At the entrance, a Hibiscus militaris, and on the right side, a hedge of Hawthorn and Hazel. Climbers such as Jasmine and Bougainvillea adorn the pergola. Fruit trees, such as Caki and Fig, add beauty. Grasses and Cornus alba complete the landscape, while Geraniums, Yarrow and Lavender frame a farm wagon.
Children’s Garden – Concession 71
The flower beds separating the garden from the bike path are adorned with grasses and Tulbaghia. Near the waterfall, three levels of palm trees with Cycas, Humilis and Yucca, while Buthia yatai is located closer to the sea. Myrtle shrubs, Indian Canes, Hemerocallids and a Carob tree with Agapanthus decorate the pond. Centuries-old olive trees, Phlomis fruticosa, Oleanders, Cysts, Bougainvillea, Plumbago, Yucca rostrata and Phormium beautify the garden, creating a colorful and welcoming environment.
Health Garden – Between Concessions 75 and 76
The Health Garden in San Benedetto del Tronto is a green corner dedicated to wellness and herbal medicine. This garden, located between concessions 75 and 76, offers a harmonious environment with a variety of aromatic and medicinal plants, such as lavender, rosemary, and sage. These plants not only beautify the landscape but also help create a relaxing and beneficial atmosphere for visitors.
Citrus Garden – Between Concessions 82 and 83
The Citrus Garden in San Benedetto del Tronto is a charming green space located between Concessions 82 and 83. This garden features a variety of citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges, Chinese mandarins, calamondinos, and bitter oranges. The harmoniously arranged plants offer both aesthetic beauty and a unique olfactory experience through the scents of orange blossoms and citrus blossoms. In addition, the garden is home to specimens of Poncirus trifoliata, known for its cold hardiness and used as rootstock for other citrus plants.
Mediterranean garden – Between concessions 84 and 85
The Mediterranean Garden of San Benedetto del Tronto, located between concessions 84 and 85, represents the typical flora of the Mediterranean climate. Here, plants such as pittosporum, santolina, and mastic trees create a natural harmony, providing a distinctive and relaxing green area along the waterfront, ideal for walks and relaxing moments.
Palm Garden – Between Concessions 86 and 87
The Palm Garden in San Benedetto del Tronto, located between concessions 86 and 87, is a green area dedicated to different species of palms, such as Washingtonia, Phoenix and Chamaerops. This theme garden is a tribute to the typical vegetation of Mediterranean coastal areas, offering an oasis of tranquility and natural beauty along the city’s waterfront.
Arid garden – Between concessions 92 and 93
San Benedetto del Tronto’s Arid Garden, located between Concessions 92 and 93, offers a landscape inspired by desert environments. Features rock gardens with succulent plants such as Aloe, Agave and Opuntia. These plants, capable of storing water in their leaves and trunks, create a harmonious and striking ensemble. The presence of Brachychiton rupestris and Tamerici adds verticality to the garden, while Mesembrianthemum with its colorful flowers beautifies the summer landscape.
Wet garden – Between concessions 94 and 95
The San Benedetto del Tronto Wet Garden, located between concessions 94 and 95, represents the typical wetlands of the Piceno region. This garden includes a variety of grasses such as Miscanthus zebrinus and Pennisetum, as well as shrubs such as Agnocastus and Hosta. The garden features a pond and plants that thrive in wet environments, creating an oasis of greenery and freshness along the city’s waterfront.
Rose Garden – Between Concessions 98 and 99
The Rose Garden in San Benedetto del Tronto, located between Concessions 98 and 99, is an area dedicated to re-blooming roses. This garden offers a wide range of rose varieties that bloom several times throughout the year, creating an explosion of color and fragrance.
