La retara

Wanted and created by the Inner Wheel – Rotary Club of San Benedetto del Tronto, the retara monument is a bronze work by sculptor Aldo Sergiacomi, inaugurated in 1991. This monument pays tribute to the women who made and repaired fishermen’s nets, a profession crucial to the development of fishing and the local economy. Set on a marble plinth, the monument is embellished with a vernacular poem by Giovanni Vespasiani, dedicated to the figure of the retara.
