The Gualtieri Tower (called “il Torrione” by the citizens of San Benedetto del Tronto) is located at the highest point in San Benedetto del Tronto and is an important command post dating back to the 12th-13th centuries.
In 1145, the Bishop of Fermo granted the Gualtieri family the construction of the castle with attached defensive tower, which has become a symbol of the city. This tower, with its clock, is a visible landmark overlooking the coastal landscape. The tower was part of a defensive system that overlooked the Tronto and Ragnola Valleys, providing extensive coastal surveillance. Today, the Gualtieri Tower is a historical and cultural landmark for the community and hosts exhibitions and cultural initiatives.
