Folklore and traditions

San Benedetto del Tronto is rich in traditions and folklore that reflect its maritime history and culture

San Benedetto del Tronto is rich in traditions and folklore that reflect its maritime history and culture. One of the most significant events is the feast of Our Lady of the Navy, celebrated on the last Sunday in July. This festivity includes a sea procession with decorated boats, culminating in spectacular fireworks.

Among other folk traditions, “La Fochera di San Giuseppe” is a March 19 celebration during which large bonfires are lit to celebrate the arrival of spring. Tradition dictates that bonfires burn old branches to make room for new crops.

St. Benedict is also known for its outdoor markets and fairs, such as “L’Antico e le Palme,” an antiques fair held several times a year, attracting dealers and visitors from all over Italy. Weekly markets, on the other hand, offer a wide variety of local products, helping to keep the culinary and craft traditions of the region alive.
