The "Museum of the Sea" in San Benedetto del Tronto is a museum complex located at the Wholesale Fish Market in the North Pier of the port and other city areas.

The “Museum of the Sea” in San Benedetto del Tronto is a museum complex located at the Wholesale Fish Market in the North Pier of the port and other city areas. The exhibitions are dedicated to the culture, anthropology and history of the sea, and are divided into:

  • Antiquarium Truentinum, with man-made flint objects and pottery fragments dating from the Neolithic period
  • Museum of Amphorae, with amphorae varying in type and chronology, recovered throughout the Mediterranean from the nets of the fishing boats of the San Benedetto del Tronto navy that during the 1900s
  • “Augusto Capriotti” Fisheries Museum, which features a thematic area display of exhibits, where you can learn about marine species such as sponges, starfish, different types of crustaceans, the tiger shark, megalodon and hogfish, lesser flying squid, eel and pilot fish.
  • Maritime Civilization Museum of the Marches, a rich museum itinerary capable of restoring information and data on the seafaring past of San Benedetto and the region.
  • Pinacoteca del Mare, at “Palazzo Piacentini” in the “High Country,” showcases a rich artistic production that is part of the civic collection, with works by various artists dedicated to the sea. Villa Marittima, at the “High Country,” is a residential building from the 1st century B.C. C. located no more than a kilometer from the sea and in which production facilities related to fish farming could also be found, such as tanks for fish breeding or facilities for the production of certain fish products, such as precisely garum.
