The Sentina Regional Nature Reserve, established on December 14, 2004, is the smallest protected area in the Marche region, but despite its small size, it is of extraordinary environmental importance.
Located in the Municipality of San Benedetto del Tronto, between Porto d’Ascoli to the north and the Tronto River to the south, Sentina covers about 180 hectares of coastal landscape. This diverse terrain includes sandy seashores, backdune wetlands, and brackish grasslands, rare habitats that are home to a distinctive and endangered flora once widespread along the entire Adriatic coastline, now compromised by urbanization.
The reserve is of particular importance for migratory avifauna, serving as an indispensable stopping point for numerous bird species during their movements between the Po Delta and Gargano wetlands. This makes Sentina a favorite place for bird watchers to observe rare and protected species in their natural habitat.
In addition to its ecological importance, Sentina offers visitors a variety of outdoor experiences. Bicycle and nature walking trails allow you to thoroughly explore the beauty of the area, immersing yourself in nature and discovering the rich biodiversity of the area.
One of the historical points of interest within the reserve is the Tower on the Harbor, a building of great historical value that testifies to the area’s past and enriches visitors’ experience.
The reserve is not only a refuge for fauna and flora, but also an environmental education center. Organizes educational activities and guided tours for schools and groups, promoting awareness and knowledge of natural habitats.
La Sentina represents an oasis of tranquility and beauty, where the unspoiled landscape merges with the waters of the Adriatic Sea, offering a unique and unforgettable experience. This piece of paradise is crucial not only for the conservation of natural habitats, but also for environmental awareness and the promotion of sustainable tourism.
