San Benedetto del Tronto’s waterfront, designed in 1932, is one of the city’s main attractions, stretching 4 kilometers along the coast. With lush vegetation including thousands of palm trees and numerous theme gardens, the waterfront offers a unique experience. In 2007, the southern waterfront was completed, transformed into a nature park with ten thematic gardens that offer beauty and fascination.

Waterfront attractions include elegant relaxation islands, a bike path, tennis courts, fountains, water features, and dedicated spaces for children. The marina, one of the most important in Italy in terms of the amount of catch and size of the flotilla, further enriches the city’s tourist offerings.

San Benedetto del Tronto saw its tourism vocation recognized in the last decades of the nineteenth century, with the establishment of the first hotels and the first bathing establishment. In 1931, engineer Luigi Onorati was commissioned to beautify the railway area adjacent to today’s Secondo Moretti Avenue. The seaside boulevard, now Buozzi Avenue, opened in 1932, was 30 meters wide and was considered disproportionate at the time. Recreational facilities were built in the southern area of the public gardens, including two tennis courts, a dance and skating rink, and the Palazzina Azzurra, home of the Forestieri Club and the Tennis Club.

Redevelopment of the waterfront has led to the creation of exotic gardens, such as citrus, medicinal plant, sail, country, and multi-sensory gardens, which are in addition to the gardens of the first section: rose, wet, dry, palm, and Mediterranean. The bike path, which is quite distinct from the rest of the promenade, has a winding course to benefit pedestrians. The pedestrian space was expanded and the old central flowerbed transformed into a tree-lined pedestrian lifesaver.

The entire project was carried out by architect Davarpanah Farnush of the “Public Works Design” sector of the City of San Benedetto del Tronto.
